Bradford Bandits BMX Club, Peel Park, Bradford, West Yorkshire, 17th October 2009

As a finishing touch to his We English exhibition, Simon Roberts, commissioned by the National Media Museum made a final photograph in Bradford. In the spirit of the project he used the Museum's website and local press and radio, inviting suggestions from members of the public for locations, events and activities to photograph. Simon spent four days in varied weather conditions, assessing locations and taking photographs. While researching the suggestions made, he found the cycling and skateboarding tracks in Peel Park looked unusual and distinctive from the aerial view on Google Maps.

When Simon took this photograph he knew he had just what he wanted. The photograph showing Bradford's BMX Bandits Club is interesting not only because of the intriguing human interaction in the landscape - typical of Simon's We English work - but also because it includes Lister's Mill chimney; a magnificent feat of Victorian architecture that defines the City of Bradford skyline.
